Why Hire an Accredited Professional Photographer?

Why Hire an Accredited Professional Photographer?

In this day and age, anyone with a cheap camera and a social media profile can add ‘Photographer’ to their name and call themselves a ‘Professional.’ But how can you, the client be sure the person you hire is a professional? Viewing pretty photographs on Facebook or other social media sites only tells you part of the story.

What is the Professional Photographers of Canada?

The Professional Photographers of Canada is a diversified group of creative artists dedicated to the highest standards in professional imaging. Founded in 1946, the PPOC was granted a Federal Charter to represent photographers in Canada. PPOC’s accreditation process recognizes photographers who have reached a nationally accepted standard of proficiency and knowledge in photographic arts. This peer-reviewed program challenges candidates to demonstrate their ability to deliver exceptional photography in a chosen class. In assessing Accreditation Submissions, the judges consider the following criteria: Vision, Impact, Composition, and Technical merit. Once a member has earned an Accreditation and registered as a PPOC Accredited Member, they can use the title 'Accredited Professional Photographer.'

Why does this matter to me?

When you hire someone to photograph your wedding, you trust them with your memories and family history. On top of that, you are trusting them with a lot of your hard-earned money. So, it just makes sense to hire a professional you can trust. An accredited professional photographer is bound by the strict Code of Ethics that the Professional Photographers of Canada has developed. Additionally, earning the accreditation is not easy; it takes years of practice, study, and experience to develop the skill necessary to produce an acceptable portfolio. This means you can be assured that the photographer you hire can deliver an excellent product.

FAQs

The most obvious answer is to look for a photographer who takes photos you like. But, there are a few more things you should consider.

Do you like them? This is critically important because you will spend most of, if not all of, your big day with your photographer. If they take great photos, but you want to gouge your eyes out just being near them, they aren’t the photographer for you.

Do they have backup gear and backup plans? If you hire a professional photographer, they should plan like a professional. At Maple Bacon Photography, we always have backup gear and backup people. We can’t simply re-shoot your wedding on a different day, so we plan for foreseeable problems.

How do they handle data? At Maple Bacon Photography, we take data storage and security seriously. We always have backups and backups of the backups. We understand how precious your photos are, and we take great care in securing them.

Yes! You should absolutely meet them given how much time you will spend with your photographer on your wedding day. You can assess their work through an online gallery, but you can’t assess their personality and whether or not you will work well together.

At Maple Bacon Photography, we believe in this so much that we always offer to take prospective clients out for a cup of coffee, on us, of course.

Absolutely. It’s your wedding, and it is essential that you do it your way. However, we always caution people about having a friend or family member photograph their wedding. A wedding is a momentous occasion, full of important moments that can’t be recreated or photographed again. Additionally, most wedding venues offer challenging lighting and shooting conditions, making getting great photographs difficult to impossible without the right experience and equipment. The risk to having a friend or family member photograph your wedding is that if they aren’t experienced with photographing weddings, the odds are high that their photos will underwhelm you. This can lead to bitter disappointment for you and a damaged relationship with your friend or loved one. Finally, it takes your loved ones out of the moment; they are no longer present as a guest to witness and participate fully in your wedding. Instead, they are trying their hardest to get great photos for you, unless, of course, they get sucked into the excitement of the day and just stop taking photos altogether.

This is why we recommend hiring a professional photographer. This way, you can be guaranteed that your photographer has the right skills, equipment, and mindset to get the job done.

Maple Bacon Photography offers an all-inclusive wedding package for large weddings and a small wedding package for a several-hour photo shoot. Both of these options give the couple flexibility of time and will create beautiful photos.
